At Karkausmäki Guesthouse, you sleep well in our unique and comfortable rooms, enjoy our scenic landscapes, get peace of mind at our lean-to shelter in front of an open fire, and relax in the gentle warmth of our traditional finnish sauna!
Karkausmäki Guesthouse offers you a unique accommodation facility in a natural scenic environment with modern amenities. Our house has five comfortable double rooms, and in the courtyard we also have a lean-to shelter and a mini camping site for three campers or caravan trailers. Savour nature in the rural landscape of Kinnula, Northern Central Finland, in the vicinity of Salamajärvi National Park!
The accommodation includes bed linen and towels, and a kitchen with utensils and dishes is at your disposal. The shared toilets and shower facilities are in the immediate vicinity of the rooms, across the corridor.
Follow in the hoofprints of wild forest reindeer at Salamajärvi Nationalpark and on the Peuran Polku Trail. You might even spot some of these rare animals. The park’s varied wild scenery includes rockstrewn pinewoods, open bogs and lakes full of tasty fish!
Pyhä-Häkki National Park is the home of the most beautiful ancient forest in southern Finland. Its old pines, hardened snags and other ancient trees that have been decomposed by bracket fungi have been given protected status. (Nationalparks.fi)

Itinerary
1. Day
Arrival to Kuopio airport or railway station pick-up and arrival Karkausmäki Guesthouse.
After settling to the accommodation, we enjoy non-alcoholic welcome drinks and your host, Jenni, will tell you about Karkausmäki Guesthouse’s history and story. Depending on arrival time, you will have dinner or evening snack before you can relax in our unique traditional sauna and after that you can get a good nights sleep in our cozy rooms.
2. Day – Salamajärvi National Park
After our hearthy farm breakfast, we head out to Salamajärvi Nationalpark for a hike with a guide. We’ll hike around the Iso Koirajärvi and have a snack on our break by the fire. Maybe you’ll get lucky and see the finnish forest reindeer on the way!
On the afternoon, you’ll have time to rest a little before dinner.
You can enjoy sunset at our lean-to before retiring to the Guesthouse’s comfortable rooms for good nights sleep.
3. Day – Wellness and forest
This is a day for relaxation and some pampering! After our hearthy breakfast, our glamping tent is reserved for you to relax and enjoy! We’ll pick some herbs from the surrounding nature and make ourselves soothing wildherb footbaths.
For additional cost you can order peat treatment, hot stone massage or pampering massage.
After dinner, we’ll have the hot tub and sauna prepared for you to enjoy!
4. Day – Peuran polku
After breakfast we head out to Peuran polku for a hike.
We hike around the Lake Valkeisjärvi, 5,5km, and have snack on our break at Pökkelöniemi lean-to.
After the hike you’ll have some time to relax before the spectagular game dinner that is served at Game restaurant Pikku Peura by the Lake Valkeisjärvi.

5. Day – Taste of Kinnula
After breakfast, you will learn how to make local sweet pastries or pies.
Depending on the season, we might go pick berries from the nearby forest.
If the weather is suitable, we’ll do cooking outside at our lean-to, on the fire.
Dinner will be at Karkausmäki this evening and you can enjoy our atmospheric sauna afterwards if you wish.
6. Day Pyhä-Häkki Nationalpark
After breakfast, we head out to National Park Pyhä -Häkki in Kannonkoski. See 400-year-old pine trees that bear scars of ancient forest fires. Such forests give you a sense of timelessness,encouraging you to slow down and savour the natural scene. We hike aroud the Mastomäki trail, 3,2km, or Kotajärvi trail, 6,5km, and have a Picnic snack on our break.
Dinner on the evening at Karkausmäki and possibility to relax in our sauna.
7. Day Departing
Breakfast and transfer to the airport.Time to say Moi moi!
